Although
born in Manchester, Ben has lived in South Devon for as long
as he can remember. After finishing his A-Levels at Churston
Grammar he left sunny Devon to seek fame and fortune as a
Redcoat at Butlins.
Five
years later and having dressed up as a ballet dancing ostrich
called Florence more times
than he'd care to remember, he returned to South Devon. He
carried on plying his trade
as an entertainer around Devon, Cornwall and Somerset.
Singing, playing piano, DJ’ing,
children’s parties… he pretty much tried his hand at
anything to pay the bills.
In
2003 his radio career began and 5 years later he arrived at
Palm 105.5 teaming up once
again with his old partner in crime Colin Leslie. “I knew
Colin from our Gemini FM days”
Ben explains. “Whilst he was doing crazy stunts here in
Torbay I was doing exactly the
same sort of stuff at the Exeter station. I can recount a few
occasions where my dressing
up antics landed me in a bit of hot water.”
Ben
now lives in Kingsteignton with his wife Laura and son George.
“I'm fairly new to fatherhood but thoroughly
enjoying it.” he said. “Mind you combining
early mornings with sleepless nights
does take its toll.”
Outside
of the studio Ben is a keen sportsman playing squash
and football. During the
summer you can also catch
him playing cricket for Harberton.
As well as sport Ben
is a keen musician and singer.
He is also involved with
BOADS (between
2001
and 2007 he played the
Dame in Panto at Brixham
Theatre) and still enjoys
DJ’ing and performing.
